A period of disqualification didn’t stop a man from taking his unregistered dirt bike for a joyride along a Bacchus Marsh road.
Brendan O’Rourke was travelling east along Holts Lane on May 6 2018, when he lost control of his vehicle and plummeted into a street sign.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Sam Young told the Bacchus Marsh Magistrates court on Friday 26 April, the accused “accelerated into the intersection, lost control and hit a sign.”
After the incident, the accused was hospitalised with minor injuries, however he did require plastic surgery on a finger that was falling off.
“This was a stupid decision which found him in hospital for three days,” the accused’s lawyer said.
Magistrate Ron Saines told the court this incident “constitutes a serious level of recklessness” and fined O’Rourke $2000 with conviction.
