A Bacchus Marsh man has fronted court following a fatal crash in the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour.
Paul Smith appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court for a brief filing hearing on Thursday March 30. He was supported by five family members.
The 25-year-old has been charged with a number of offences including culpable driving, speed dangerously and drink driving.
Police allege that the accused was driving a Holden ute along Bacchus Marsh Road at about 2am on March 25, when he lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and hit a tree.
A passenger in the car, 22-year-old Hayden Kloppers from New Gisborne, died at the scene.
Smith was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in August.
