Other highlights included James Bayard achieving a new personal highest score of 15 n.o. and Eamon Grigg batting late in the innings with the instructions to just play his shots scoring 24 n.o.

Jackson Letcher bowled his biggest spell of five overs in a game with very tidy figures of 1/12. Clover McIlwaine was back to her best bowling fast and accurate.

Charlotte Wallace picked up a valuable wicket with a fantastic catch taken by Oscar Britt setting himself under a high ball at mid-off. Burton came on late in the game with her off spin to ensure the opposition didn’t get back in the game bowling a wicket maiden and then only going for 1 run in the final over of the match.

On a very windy day, and put into bat, Ballan lost wickets steadily until captain Max Burton steadied the ship in the middle, joining Param, for a 71 run partnership.

Following their departure, first gamer for Ballan, and under 11s coach Marty Phillips. came to the crease. Phillips finished on 6 not out, putting together runs with Josh Singh 13, Angus Britt 1 and JB on 1 not out. Ballan finished on a respectable 9/141.

The Fire Brigade openers started with a flourish but Burton took two catches in quick succession off both Jake and Thom which put them on the back foot. Wernicke proceeded to pick up four more wickets, including being on a hat-trick.

A nice victory for Ballan with all players contributing in the close win.
