About 1pm on Tuesday 24 October, Moorabool HWP intercepted a Ford utility westbound on the Western Fwy, Bacchus Marsh as part of Operation Early Bird.

The vehicle was being driven from Drouin to Hamilton by a 71-year-old male from Hamilton who was ‘unaware’ that the load had shifted at some stage between Drouin and Bacchus Marsh.

The male admitted that he had not felt the load move nor had he used his vehicle’s mirrors since departing.

The protrusion was measured at being 3m from the side of the vehicle when the permissible amount is 15cm.

The driver was issued with an infringement notice for having an insecure load which incurred a monetary fine of $288.

After the timber was re-adjusted, the male continued on his way.

The risk associated with not securing the contents of your tray or trailer can be fatal to other road users.
